Snow White With the Red Hair Season 2 Review****-

Cert 12 | 2017

4 stars of charming and gentle romance.

Snow White With Red Hair is based on the Japanese Shōjo manga written by Sorata Akizuki and adapted for anime by studio Bones (Fullmetal AlchemistNoragami). This is season two and concludes the story.

“He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he learned to speak in the red light district.”

Shirayuki (Brina PalenciaBlack Butler: Book of Circus, Tokyo Ghoul) is a beautiful young woman, forced to flee her homeland of Tanbarun when Prince Raj Schenazade (Todd Haberkorn – Free! Eternal Summer, No-Rin) takes a shine to her red hair and decides to make her his concubine.

After fleeing to the neighbouring country of Clarines, she is rescued by the second Prince, Zen Wisteria (Josh GrelleBrothers Conflict, Heavy Object) and his two loyal retainers, Mitsuhide (Ian SinclairRage of Bahamut: Genesis, Noragami) and Kiki (Jamie MarchiTokyo ESP).

Zen is able to get her a position training to be a state herbalist in the palace, which also allows the two of them to work on their burgeoning romance. They face opposition on all sides however, the first Prince Izana (Eric ValeJormungand, One Piece) is dead set against the relationship and decides to send her on a diplomatic mission to Tanbarun.

With Obi (Austin TindleBen-To, A Certain Scientific Railgun) as her escort, she sets off on her journey, but there are still factions moving against her and Obi will have his work cut out for him keeping her safe.

Snow White with the Red Hair is a lovely anime to watch. There is plenty of action, but the story is quite slow paced and never feels rushed and the animation is beautiful. There is heavy emphasis on character development and the relationships which form during the course of the story and the overall effect is a real feel-good experience. The soundtrack is also very good, sweeping classical pieces which set the scenes brilliantly.

A fabulous conclusion to a lovely story and a must own for anyone who enjoyed season 1.

“Colour has meaning and red is supposed to represent fate. You may not like it much now, but your red might lead you to something good when you least expect it.”

Snow White with the Red Hair Part 2 is available to order now on Blu-ray and will be released on 21st August 2017.
