5 star restoration of this Eighties cult classic.

Evil Dead 2 was first released in 1987 and is written by Scott Spiegel (The Rookie) and Sam Raimi (Spiderman, Oz the Great and Powerful), who also directs.

It has enjoyed a full restoration making it more gloriously gory than ever and is available on 4K Ultra HD for the first time courtesy of Studio Canal.

“I don’t think so. We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw. Does that sound fine?”

Evil Dead 2 is the parody sequel to 1981 film The Evil Dead, also by Sam Raimi. It opens with a heavily adjusted recap of the events of the first film, which saw Ashley “Ash” J. Williams (Bruce Campbell – Army of Darkness, Bubba Ho-Tep) and his girlfriend Linda (Denise Bixler – Booker) unwittingly unleash the powers of darkness upon a small cabin in the mountains.

After an audio recording from Professor Raymond Knowby reading from the pages of the Book of the Dead, a demon is released which terrorises our plane of existence during the night hours.

Having dispatched his troublesome girlfriend, Ash slowly begins to lose his grip on reality as the demon subjects him to a series of torments, including taking control of his hand and forcing it to try to kill him with hilarious results. He is also mocked by the furniture and even himself.

Luckily for him, the cavalry is on the way in the form of Annie Knowby (Sarah Berry) archaeologist daughter of Raymond, and her research partner Ed Getley (Richard Domeier – Die Hard 2, Teen Wolf), who have found more pages from the Book of the Dead.

They are accompanied by locals Jake (Dan Hicks – Darkman, Intruder) and Bobby Joe (Kassie Wesley – Days of our Lives, One Life to Live), who help them to negotiate the trail after the bridge is destroyed.

Nothing is ever easy however and with the demon at full power, even with reinforcements and armed with the correct pages from the book, Ash and his new friends are in for a very long night as they are constantly tricked and turned against one another.

Evil Dead 2 is an established cult classic and this incarnation of it is sure to delight fans. With Sam Raimi’s imaginative and unusual approach to horror film making, this iconic film stands the test of time and looks just as good today as it did when it was first released.

Delightfully gory, laugh out loud funny and flying in the face of Hollywood convention with extreme glee, it is great to see this fantastic film brought up to date and with all the special features this is a must own for fans and newcomers alike.
