4 star, the saga continues in the palace.

Princess Principal: Crown Handler Part 2 is a Japanese anime film, written by Noburu Kimura and directed by Masaki Tachibana (Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex). Produced by studio Actas (Girls und Panzer) it is the second film in a series of 6 films which are the sequel to the 2017 series Princess Principal.

It is presented here on Blu-ray with both Japanese and English dub courtesy of MVM Entertainment.

“If the bombs were used as part of an assassination, we would be their prime suspect.”

Our story begins at the turn of the 20th Century, in a version of England known as the Kingdom of Albion, where a revolution has split the country. A decade later, a wall across London seperates the Kingdom of Albion from the Commonwealth of Albion and spies from both sides cross the wall to gather information.

Following the events of the end of Princess Principal, tensions are running higher than ever, with both sides beginning to suspect that there could be double agents in their midst.

Into this atmosphere of distrust is thrown another element, the invention and successful testing of  a Cavorite bomb. Devised by the Commonwealth, three such devices have been stolen and are believed to have been transported in to the Kingdom. There’s also a new player in the field, Prince Richard returning after five years only to be the target of an attempted assasination.

Once again it is up to the team led by Ange (Aoi Koga – Komi Can’t Communicate) to find the bombs and prevent the outbreak of war.

“The fact that it’s laden with traps means it’s probably already abandoned. We might have been given bogus intel.”

Princess Principal: Crown Handler Part 2 is a very enjoyable watch, carrying on the tale of our heroines and the story of Albion. As always, the graphics are slick and gorgeous to look at, with a distinctly steam punk feel about the whole thing.

It also finishes on a massive cliff hanger, and with no date in sight for Part 3, we can only hope that they do not leave us in suspense for too long.

A must watch for fans of the franchise.

“It would seem Headquarters is intent on recovering the bombs, even if it causes a scene.”

Princess Principal is available to own now on Blu-ray
