Adventuring From the Sword’s Mouth.

Have you ever wondered, while you’re doing an RPG, what your equipment is going through? Nope me neither. But now MVM has brought us the answer with Reincarnated as a Sword S1 Collection on Blu-ray. Adapted from the Japanese light novel series written by Yuu Tanaka and illustrated by Llo. An anime television series adaptation by C2C aired from October to December 2022. Be prepared for some action and adventuring from a slightly different angle.

Fancy seeing your demise as a memory as you wake in a fantasy realm. You have been reincarnated, but as a fancy looking sword in a world full of strange creatures and peoples. He cannot remember having a name, but as he sits upon his pedestal, he wonders what he is, an answer comes back as an otherworldly voice of an AI that shows him his skill level etc.

The first thing he comes across is a group of Goblins. He finds that he doesn’t like their attention and finds that one of his talents is telekinesis, meaning he can move about, and this lets him go into stabby, slashy mode. This is also the time he finds that monsters have crystals inside them that give him the skills and talents of the beasts he has slain. This is when he vows to be the best sword in the world, and he spends lots of time killing anything he can find in the lands, learning new skills and levelling up.

Meanwhile, a group of slavers are putting their slaves to work, when a two-headed grizzly bear appears and starts chomping down on anything it can get its claws and teeth on. One of these slaves is the twelve-year-old black cat Fran. She can only do what her masters tell her as she is under contract, and she wears a magical collar and cuffs that prevent her from disobeying their orders. She only wants to become stronger and evolve.

During the commotion of the bear, she comes across a sword stuck in the forest mud, she grabs it and heads for the bear. Much to the surprise of the sword, he finally has a wielder. Fran dispatches the bear, but when her captor asks where she got the sword she cannot use it against him, and when he shows her her contract, the sword acts and destroys it and then Fran is free, to do as she wishes.

They find they can communicate telepathically, and that the sword can share his accumulated skills, and now Fran has to name the sword, who becomes ‘Teacher’. Now the pair want to wander the land getting stronger and levelling up. That is when they meet Randall and find out about adventuring and the Adventurers Guild.

The story starts, and it is great fun as this bright and well choreographed anime bounces along nicely, There will be believers and disbelievers of the skills of this young cat, as she shows powers and skills beyond her age. A great way to spend three-hundred minutes.
