Life Means Nothing in Mega Tokyo!

Classic anime comes to Blu-ray, you would not believe the price I had to pay to get Bubblegum Crisis on video back in the day (early 1990s), never mind the VHS player to go with it, just to watch this cyberpunk extravaganza. Now MVM presents this Perfect Collection – Collector’s Edition, eight episodes with three-hundred and thirty-three minutes of badass ‘Boomer’s’ versus the ‘Knight Sabers’, the power armour-clad quartet of girls against the big conglomerate Genom.

Welcome to Mega Tokyo’s Tinsel City in 2032 where mega corporations see the old city and want to make it new in their vision of a brighter future, but the future is not bright, it is doom and gloom and very dangerous. The impoverished try to make money by any means, biker gangs terrorize the flyovers, while very important people just disappear. One of these people was the father of Silia Stingray, a twenty-two-year-old young woman with skills, and she forms the Knight Sabers.

A foursome of ‘hard-suited’ vigilantes, consisting of herself and Priscilla “Priss” S. Asagiri, a moody and defiant 19-year-old who is a Japanese-American rock singer and biker; her band’s name, “Priss and the Replicants”, this is where you see the inspiration for this OVA as it is heavily based in the World of ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘Streets of Fire’.

Next there is Linna Yamazaki, who dons a green Hard Suit equipped with “ribbon cutters” – long, electrically charged nano-molecular ropes mounted behind the helmet that can be used to slash through Boomers.

Finally, Nene Romanova, an 18-year-old member of the Knight Sabers, acting as a technical conductor and hacker, and works for the AD Police.

Silia has a brother Mackie Stingray, He serves as the Knight Sabers’ backup and mechanic along with Sylia’s friend, Dr. Raven. He is great at fixing the girls bikes and driving their truck to various situations, but his main hobby is trying to find his sister and the other member of the Knight Sabers in various states of undress.

The Knight Sabers main trouble is, Boomers are synthetic life forms produced by the GENOM Corporation. (Think of Terminator) they look human but when their mask is unveiled they grow into grotesque metal warriors, hell-bent on mass destruction.

Watch as the girls take on contracts, save people, fight vigilantes out for revenge, take on the heads of mega-corporations, it’s all action at high revs.
