Down the Wrong Rabbit Hole.

Writer/director Gerard Johnson is known for Hyena (2014), Tony (2009), and now he has teamed up with fellow writer/director Austin Collings (Wild Bodies (Short)) to bring us a dark oddly funny thriller. With the main character living on the knife edge of a magnificent success and abject failure. With people hot on her heals, she must make the deals that deliver her dreams.

Monday morning is not going well for Natasha Flynn (Polly Maberly, Pride and Prejudice (TV Mini Series), Muscle), as she sits in Zen Smile dentists, having a wisdom tooth out, not a good way to start the week. After that it doesn’t get any better as her card is declined three times, before she walks out saying she has a busy day. Tash is a forty-years-too-late yuppie, she runs her own estate agency (Flynn’s).

In the office there are Tash’s number two Safi (Kellie Shirley, In the Long Run, Blockhead) who has been there since the start, Tech whiz Spike, and new girl Dylan Rose (Jasmine Blackborow, Shadow and Bone (TV Series), Marie Antoinette (TV Series)). The buzz about the office is the news report of missing estate agent Douglas Kelly, and how could this happen to someone in their industry, when all they try to do is make people’s dreams come true. But Tash ignores them as she comes across as a hard-nosed bitch, but she tells her team she loves them all, all the while trying to arrange a merger to secure their future.

We find out that Tash likes her wine, recreational drugs and gambling apps, all the while dodging phone calls asking for debts to be repaid, or find the next opportunity to acquire more funds.

This desperate search brings her back in contact with nightclub owner Dom (Daniel De Bourg, Fountain of Youth, Memory), she is already thirty-five grand down the hole with him, and she wants another fifty grand. A debt like that will come with a catch. This film is all about the catch.

Odyssey, the dark and funny film you didn’t know that you should watch.
