Twisty Skulduggery.

MVM brings us seasons one and two in a boxset, that drags you into a future where there are no more wars. Adapted from the Japanese light novel series written by Takemachi and illustrated by Tomari, that takes us deep into the underbelly of spies and the dangers they face to keep the balance of power in check. And it is all down to seven young female misfits and the best spy in the world.

Klaus (Yûichirô Umehara, Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (TV Series), Goblin Slayer (TV Series)) is the sole survivor of spy team Inferno, the others perished, on a dangerous mission, that their mentor Guido (Shin’ichirô Miki, Perfect Blue, Pokémon 3 the Movie: Spell of the Unown) sent them on. The mission was unsuccessful, and that now makes it an ‘Impossible Mission’ where the mortality rate is 90%, in a team of seven.

Klaus codename Bonfire resides in the Heat Haze Palace, a mansion that has been used by the spies for years. Klaus’ superior C (Mtsuru Ogata, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood  (TV Series), Steins;Gate (TV Series)) tells him of the Impossible Mission, to retrieve a stolen technology from the Empire, and he has one month to train a new team to be called the ‘Lamplight’.

Klaus chooses seven young female from seven different academies, but he chooses seven from the bottom of their classes. He must train these seven misfits to do the most dangerous mission to save billions of lives.

His new team consists of:- Lilly She has silver hair, 17 years old, code name Flower Garden, Grete She has red hair, 18 years old, code name Daughter Dearest, Sibylla She has white hair, 17 years old, code name Pandemonium, Monika She has cerulean hair, 16 years old, code name Glint, Thea She has black hair, 18 years old, code name Dreamspeaker, Sara She has brown hair, 15 years old, code name Meadow, Annette She has ash pink hair, 14 years old, code name Forgetter.

The girls arrive at the Palace and get to know each other, and then Klaus tells them that they are now going to do an Impossible Mission, and that he is the greatest spy in the world, and he will teach them everything they need to know to do the mission. But it soon becomes obvious that while Klaus has the skills, he cannot teach anything, as he does it all through intuition.

You should make it like a honeybee licking a stamen.

With time ticking away, the girls start to believe that they are only here to be sacrificial pawns, Lilly takes it upon herself to take the fight to Klaus, but him being the best spy in the world, he survives Lilly’s special ability. But this initiative proves that Lilly has the ability to be the team’s leader. Lilly passes on that Klaus does not see them as Sacrificial Pawns, he will get them all home safe.

We’re not about to abandon a fellow bottom-dweller.

“Defeat Me!”

We see Lamplight go through their training trying to get the greatest spy in the world to say “I Surrender”, until it is time to go on the Impossible Mission.

Then you are treated to the team properly.

You aren’t qualified to be my enemy, yet.
