My Soul To Take DVD Review**---

Cert 18 | 96 mins | 2011

91ONzt5kjsL._AA1500_I have awarded this film 2 stars. This is a Wes Craven film, and that does become obvious pretty quickly. It has all the hallmarks of his recent work (Scream, mostly) and feels more than anything like a long lost member of the Scream franchise.

Although this is an 18 certificate it seems to be more of a psychological thriller than an actual horror film, and unfortunately it does fall down somewhat in this, due to it making very little sense in quite a number of places. There are holes in the plot that you could drive a bus through, and that makes it difficult to get into the story properly.

There is nothing here to tempt die hard horror fans, no real blood and guts, and no real action scenes either. It is essentially a teen horror flick, rather disappointing for an 18 certificate film, since by the time you are old enough to watch it you have gone past the age where you would have been interested in it!

It does however have a few plus points. In spite of a rather clunky and confusing script the acting is, surprisingly, very good, with excellent performances by Max Thierot who plays Bug (Jumper, Chloe), John Magaro who plays Alex and Emily Meade as Fang.

There are several special features included on the disc; Deleted and Extended Scenes (all of which are apparent why they were cut in the first place), Alternative Opening and Endings, Audio Commentary and Trailer.

In summary, this is not one for serious horror fans, but there will be plenty of fans of formulaic teen horror who will love it, and appreciate it for what it is.

My Soul To Take is available on DVD and Blu-ray from 4 April 2011
