Cert 18 | 150 mins | 2021

4 stars of spine chilling but silly horror anthology.

Creepshow is a Shudder original series, which is a continuation of the 1982 film of the same name, in which the Creep introduces and presents stories from the comic book “Creepshow.” It is executive produced by showrunner Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead).

Season 3 follows the same format as the previous two seasons, each episode is an anthology of two stories.

“Now, this chalice was rumoured to bestow eternal life upon anyone who drank from it. It’s part of motion picture history. In the same way, props bring eternal life to movies. Unlike the stars themselves, props never die.”

Episode one and the first story we are introduced to is Mums, the tale of a young boy called Jack (Brayden Benson – Tag) who lives with his mother Bloom (Erin Beute – The Vampire Diaries) and violent veteran father Hank (Ethan Embry – Sweet Home Alabama). Following an argument, his mother is taken away by Hank and his best friend Connor (Lowrey Brown – Hillbilly Elegy) and doesn’t return, leaving Beth (Malone Thomas – My Sweet Holiday) to look after him. In her memory, he plants some seeds he found in her suitcase, but they may prove to be rather more than he bargained for.

Next we have Queen Bee, a cautionary tale about stalking your favourite music act. Super fans Debra (Hannah Kepple – Cobra Kai), Trenice (Olivia Hawthorne) and Carlos (Nico Gomez) are obsessed with singer Regina (Kaelynn Gobert-Harris). When they get wind of the fact that she is in the local hospital about to give birth, they take advantage of Debra’s Mums’ security pass to break in to see her. What they find, however, is absolutely not what they expected.

“You’d understand if you’d seen her live. It changes you. Do you want to see her babies?”

Episode two introduces us to Skeletons in the Closet, a gruesome tale set in the Lampini Prop Museum, where proprietor Lampini (Victor Rivera – All That Matters) and his girlfriend Danielle (Valerie LeBlanc – Dynasty) butt heads with old family rival Bateman (James Remar – Dead Reckoning) making for some hilarious animated skeleton action.

Next up is Familiar, and trainee lawyer Jack (Andrew Bachelor – The Babysitter, Vacation Friends) and his girlfriend Fawn (Hannah Fierman – Haven’s End, St. Agatha) get way too drunk and pay a visit to psychic Boone (Keith Arthur Bolden – Cobra Kai, Black Lightning). Boone has some disturbing news for Jack, “something bad followed you in here” and even more disturbing advice on how to rectify the situation.

Episode three and now we have The Last Tsubarayaa satisfying tale in which arrogant and selfish art collector Wade (Branden Quinn – Sweet Magnolias) buys a priceless work of art out from under Dr. Mai Sato (Gina Hiraizumi – Doom Patrol) only to find out that he has finally met his match.

The next story is Okay I’ll Bite, a deeply disturbing (especially for arachnophobes) tale of prison inmate Elmer Strick (Nick Massouh – Sun Dogs) and his little family of creepy crawlies, with sinister intent.

Creepshow Season 3 is shaping up to be yet another brilliant selection of stories. With wild imagination, these crazy tales are brought to life with some great special effects, just as cheesy as they should be when giving form to a comic book.

It has just the right balance between scary, gory, creepy and silly to make it a fantastic and enjoyable watch. A great start and looking forward to the rest of the series.

“Alright. New plot twist. Grab me the Night of the Living Dead meat hooks and the box cutter from Breaking Bad and meet me in the back. Go.”
