Double Bill Fan Favourite
Anderson Entertainment and Kaleidoscope Entertainment are thrilled to announce a big-screen experience for fans of classic British sci-fi, Thunderbirds, to mark its 60th Anniversary. This cinematic double-bill brings together two of the most iconic episodes ever made: TRAPPED IN THE SKY and TERROR IN NEW YORK CITY. The double-bill will be in UK cinemas, in expertly restored stunning 4K UHD, from 20th September. I remember as a young lad having to run up a big hill to my friend’s house, because he could pick up Thunderbirds on Saturdays. Great days, and now you can experience this slice of global puppetry in 4K. Make sure you grab your popcorn.
So how do you define a great cinematic experience?
Well, 1. Start with the most famous countdown. Then be told, “Stand by for action!”
Then you are suddenly hit with the famous Thunderbird March, by Barry Gray (Torchy The Battery Boy, Four Feather Falls). That’s the way to get the adrenaline flowing
Add in Supermarionation, the mind is already blown.
Then it is episode one, Trapped in the Sky
With a quick preview, then we are into the start of International Rescue, as the Hood plans their demise before they get started. His brother Kyrano works for the Tracy family, and he knows they are responsible for the formation of IR. He wants to know when they will become operational, so that he can set up a disaster that they cannot ignore.
That opportunity is the brand new atomic powered Fireflash, the hypersonic airliner departing for its maiden flight to Tokyo. Long before Ethan Hunt had his mask disguises, the Hood had these so he can infiltrate the airport and plant a bomb in the undercarriage of the Fireflash, making it impossible to land without blowing up.
The Hood calls in the bomb threat, high above the planet, Thunderbird 5 monitors all distress calls broadcast. When there are only a few hours of safe flying, before the radioactive shielding fails. IR spring into Action.
The second episode is an epic undertaking, Terror in New York City
As New York City gets older (It’s 2060) regeneration of Midtown Manhattan is required, and that means moving the national monument that is the Empire State Building. With its massive scaffolding, they plan to move the whole building across town.
Throw in an intrepid reporter and his cameraman, and a disaster you know what you get, great entertainment.
Thunderbirds at 60 is for the fans and their offspring’s offsprings, but now in 4K, it is a whole new treat for all. Grab your popcorn at the concession stand and settle in for nearly two hours of F.A.B. entertainment.
