4 stars of colourful, fun-packed adventure.

Power Rangers Dino Charge Unleashed (Volume 1) is season 22 of the long running American children’s television programme, Power Rangers. It is created by Haim Saban and Toei Company. This volume contains the first four episodes.

This widely popular franchise has been running since 1993 and as shown by Dino Charge, is still holding it’s own magnificently.

“Sometimes you’re busy saving the world and sometimes you’re busy flipping burgers. Today, it’s burgers.”

65 million years ago, an alien known as the Keeper (Eve Gordon – The Almighty Johnsons) was being pursued by an evil bounty hunter known as Sledge (Adam Gardiner – Eagle vs. Shark, For Good). The Keeper is in possession of the most powerful artifacts in the Universe, the Energems and Sledge will stop at nothing to get his hands on them.

To keep them safe, the Keeper entrusts them to the most powerful creatures he can find, the dinosaurs of Earth. Unfortunately, Sledge also has a large collection of asteroids attached to his prison ship and when the Keeper blows it up, they fall to Earth, triggering an extinction level event which wipes out the dinosaurs.

65 million years later, the Energems are discovered by archaeologists digging for dinosaur fossils, and they begin to choose humans to receive their powers, the Power Rangers Dino Charge!

The humans in question are based out of the Amber Beach Dinosaur Museum, working in the cafe when they aren’t saving the world, under the guidance of the Keeper and Kendall (Claire Blackwelder – Stalked by my Doctor: The Return).

This newly assembled team includes Tyler (Brennan Mejia – Ka-boom), the Red Power Ranger, a teenager trying to locate the monster responsible for the disappearance of his father. The Pink Power Ranger is Shelby (Camille Hyde – American Vandal), who works in the cafe at the museum and the Blue Ranger is Koda (Yoshi Sudarso – Pretty Dudes), a caveman who happened upon his Energem 100,000 years before. The team is completed by the Black Ranger, Chase (James Davies – Secret Traffic), an archaeologist and the Green Ranger, Riley (Michael Taber – The Legend of Hell’s Gate), a former farm worker.

Together they must save the world from Sledge and his evil ship full of monsters!

Power Rangers Dino Charge is extremely enjoyable to watch. With it’s unique brand of rubbish plastic monsters, terrible special effects and huge over enthusiasm on the part of all concerned, it makes for a gloriously colourful and noisy experience which is laugh out loud funny and makes you feel really good.

A great watch for children of all ages!

“Bring me an Energem and I’ll personally chauffeur you to any galaxy you want.”
