4 star gripping and claustrophobic thriller.

Affection is a 2025 American sci-fi horror thriller film written and directed by BT Meza, in an impressive feature debut.

It is available on UK and Ireland Digital Platforms from 8th June 2026, courtesy of Blue Finch Film Releasing.

“Who are you? Who are you?! Where am I? People will be looking for me.”

Ellie (Jessica RotheBoy Kills World, Happy Death Day) wakes up in bed in a strange room. She looks down and there is a strange man sleeping next to her. Understandably, she jumps out of bed, but the man follows her. He assures her that he is her husband Bruce (Joseph Cross – Lincoln, Liquorice Pizza) and that she is suffering from a rare brain disorder following an accident.

A young girl comes in, her daughter Alice (Julianna Layne – Scrap, Inexistant), but still no recognition. She does however remember an entirely different life. with a husband and a son and a childhood not reflected by the photos on the walls.

Bruce continues to tell her that her memories will eventually return and that their remote lifestyle is crucial to her recovery. But as the debilitating seizures get worse, she begins to suspect that something more sinister may be going on. Can she work out what is happening before it is too late?

“It’s okay Mommy. Sometimes you just have a hard time remembering. “

Affection is an excellent sci-fi film, well written and a great and scary idea for a story. Admittedly in places the science part of the description is stretched pretty thin, but it is fiction after all.

It is a largely character driven story, brought to life brilliantly by the three leads who each put in great performances. The visuals are good too, bringing a real sense of isolation and claustrophobia as well as creeping dread. It also touches on themes of domestic abuse without overworking it.

This disturbing and thought provoking thriller is an excellent debut and I’m looking forward to seeing what else lies in store from BT Meza. With lots of twists and turns, keeping you guessing right to the end, this film is well worth a watch.

“I remember being pregnant with a son. I remember my husband, my other husband. I remember other parents, another childhood, other friends.”

Affection is on UK and Ireland Digital Platforms from 8th June 2026.
