Football, Music, Drive By’s and I and I.

From director/writer Reinaldo Marcus Green (We Own This City (TV Mini Series), King Richard) comes the story of the man who came from nothing to change the face of music and the world. Bob Marley, the Rastafarian who promoted the struggles of his fellow Jamaicans and the path to peace in times of extreme strife and violent troubles, through his and the Wailer’s Reggae music.

Bob Marley, the global phenomenon, had humble beginnings in St Ann Parish, Jamaica, then growing up in Trench Town under colonial control. But when independence comes in 1976, this is where the two political factions of the nation fight tooth and nail to gain ground and control. With all this unrest, Bob Marley (Kingsley Ben-Adir, Peaky Blinders (TV Series), Barbie) wants to send out a message of peace, by performing at the “Jamaica Smile” concert along with his wife Rita (Lashana Lynch, No Time to Die, Captain Marvel) and the Wailers.

It was the events two days before the concert that changed  the course of Marley’s life. In darkness, armed assailants enter the Marley’s house and shoot him twice, his manager Don Taylor (Anthony Welsh, Starred Up, The Flatshare (TV Series)) six times and Rita also gets wounded. You would think this would make you think twice, but Marley says he will perform. Which he does, and at the end he shows his wounds to the gathered crowd.

Three months later, Marley and the Wailers are in London, and Rita and the children are in the US, for safety.

“Music will run like river”.

Marley wants a new sound for the next album and along with producer Chris Blackwell (James Norton, Happy Valley, Little Women) tries to find the sound that will make the world listen, and ultimately bring peace to Jamaica.

“You swim in pollution, you get polluted”.

Kingsley Ben-Adir is outstanding in the role of the man that changed the face of Reggae.
