4 star bitey, brutal, brilliant B-movie.
Snakes on a Plane is a 2006 action thriller film, directed by stuntman-turned-director David R. Ellis (Cellular, Shark Night) and written by John Heffernan, Sebastian Gutierrez (Elizabeth Harvest) and David Dalessandro.
It has enjoyed the full 4K treatment and is available to own in the UK on 4K UHD from 19th Jan 2026 courtesy of Arrow Video .
“This is your new pilot Troy speaking, and sitting next to me is my main man, my brother from another mother, the biggest pimp that I know, Superfly Agent Flynn.”
Sean Jones (Nathan Phillips – Wolf Creek, These Final Hours) is minding his own business in Hawaii when he accidentally witnesses a murder. Crime lord Eddie Kim (Byron Lawson – Skyscraper, Outcast) brutally kills prosecutor Daniel Hayes (Scott Nicholson – Paradox), sparking a man hunt and slapping a target squarely on Sean’s back.
FBI agent Neville Flynn (Samuel L. Jackson – Deep Blue Sea, Cell) is charged with escorting him on a flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles to testify at the trial. However, Eddie Kim is one step ahead and has a huge container filled with the most venomous snakes the world has to offer plus a pheromone to make them angry, loaded into a container in the hold of said flight.
They emerge mid-flight, killing anyone in their path, including the pilot Sam (Tom Butler – Sonic the Hedgehog). Unpleasant and sexist co-pilot Rick (David Koechner – Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Departures) finds himself in charge, and with help from Flynn and the two flight attendants, Claire (Julianna Margulies – ER (TV Series), The Upside) and Grace (Lin Shaye – Insidious: Chapter 3, Critters), they must try to stop this ophidian onslaught.
“All praises to the PlayStation.”
Snakes on a Plane is on some levels a terrible film, but that in no way detracts from the sheer enjoyment of watching bucket loads of snakes chow down on unsuspecting air passengers. It doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not, the lines are drawn by the title and it does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s funny in all the right places and hits the spot neatly, with an entertaining story (albeit a bit ridiculous).
The acting is actually pretty good, the special effects of the aftermath of the bites are well executed and gruesome and although it takes a while for Samuel L. Jackson to reach his signature line, when he does deliver it, it’s well worth the wait.
It looks great in 4K and with more special features (see below) than you can shake a snake at, this is a fantastic release which will fit in just nicely on your disaster film shelf.
“I have had it with these mother***ing snakes on this mother***ing plane! Everybody strap in! I’m about to open some f***ing windows.”
