“I don’t know my father. I saw him twice in my life, ’til i was twenty two, when he turned up after I’d had a few hit records and I saw him, I spoke to him and I decided I still didn’t want to know him.”
This is a brilliant documentary, which details the events of John Lennon’s life from him leaving the Beatles in 1969 to his tragic murder in 1980. There are in depth interviews with many of the people involved in the making of his various albums and most interestingly, his final album Double Fantasy. This was to see his triumphant return to touring and there is astonishing footage and accounts of the plans for that tour, which truly would have been an amazing spectacle to behold.
It also covers his work as a political activist and anti-war protester, his revolutionary approach to music and the real story of how he and Yoko Ono met, with all the challenges, as well as touching on ‘The Lost Weekend‘. There is a deeply emotive interview with someone who actually saw his killer several times and didnt realise the threat he posed, as well as a journalist who was present at the hospital when he was brought in.
With lots and lots of archive footage, much of it never seen before, including John, Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney and an interview with his beloved Aunt Mimi, this is a superb documentary and a must watch for Lennon fans, Beatles fans or just fans of music in general. Very interesting, very informative and well worth a watch.
“I think it’s inevitable when you’re that famous and that rich and that disposed to new ideas as it were, that all kinds of crackpots will come through the door.”
