70’s Creature Feature.

Eureka Classics has outdone themselves with this 1970s B-Movie, Horror, Sci-Fi, restored to crispness, to bring out the full horror of this flick based very loosely on H. G. Wells short story of the same name. Adapted and directed by Bert I. Gordon (The Food of the Gods, The Amazing Colossal Man), and this is the last in a series based on Wells’ short stories. With famous names and well known TV faces this is a big hit for fans of the Sci-Fi Horror genre, get it now, with this Limited Edition Blu-ray. Details Below.

We start dramatically with a narrative how ants operate with pheromones and how that makes them follow orders to the letter and won’t deviate from those orders, and their ability to farm other ants. While we are being told these facts we see a small boat dumping forty gallon drums off the back of the boat, all of them have ‘Danger Radioactive Waste’ plastered all over them.

After some time one of the barrels washes ashore, it has been battered and rusty, and a strange silver liquid is oozing from rusty holes. And for some strange reason the local ants love the stuff. We don’t get a timescale, but it must be some time later, that we see a small gathering of prospective clients to shady developer Marilyn Fryser (Joan Collins, Fear in the Night, The Monster), and her Dreamland Shores vision of beachfront properties.

Straight away you find out that Marilyn Fryser is in charge as she organises everybody onto Dan Stokely’s (Robert Lansing, 4D Man, The Equalizer (TV Series)) boat, to ferry them to their prospective new homes, or an investment opportunity. The group is made up of young and old, single and married. Some of the married want to get with the single ones, whether they want it or not.

It’s not long before the clients start hearing strange noises, then the noisemaker’s make their presence known, and now it is a race for survival as the boat is scuppered, and all humans must go through the thick undergrowth and forest to try and escape their pursuers.

Watch the struggle on this wondrously restored 70s classic. Love it.
