“See, us tamers have a special little trick. I can only do it once. But, I cab use this bone to recreate a dragon’s flame and use that to wipe the monsters out.”
Yuji (Scott Gibbs – My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered, Ragna Crimson) is an office worker from Japan, who has somehow found himself pulled into the world of a game he was playing, as a low level Tamer.
Upon taming a slime, he is led to a disused hut, full of tomes which must have belonged to a powerful Sorcerer. Having tamed more slimes, he learns that whenever they read a book, he is instantly whatever skills and spells are contained, as well as a new character class, Sage. He is helped out in his adventuring by Proudwolf (John Gremillion – Vinland Saga, The Tunnel to Summer, The Exit of Goodbyes), Dryad (Kira Vincent-Davis – Brynhildr in the Darkness, Akame ga Kill!) and his team of tame slimes.
He is based out of the village of Phastan, where he is viewed as a lesser explorer until he uses his skills to save the town from hordes of monsters and leaves to avoid creating a fuss. Evidence seems to point to the problem being caused by a mysterious group called the Blue Moon of Salvation. He heads for nearby Kilia, where he joins a party with knife wielder Rodis (Brandon Hearnsberger – Vermeil in Gold, Helck), whose treachery leads him to both a notorious local bandit leader and further clues about the Blue Moon of Salvation.
As he learns more about their plans and guided by the priest Steyl (Chris Hutchison – Baki, Un-go), he finds himself in ever more dangerous situations, learning his new found skills on the fly and constantly evolving his massive abilities as a magic user. He also makes a very useful friend in the form of Gelios (James Belcher – Made in Abyss, Princess Principal), a powerful armourer who outfits him and his crew. Can he find out the truth and prevent the upcoming catastrophe, while preserving his anonimity?
“Okay. Let’s go over our request. We’re headed out to find where the Earth Dragon is hiding. We don’t have to fight it, but it is a powerful creature, so let’s all stay alert.”
My Isekai Life is an excellent anime, great fun to watch from start to finish. It’s a great story, beautifully animated with plenty of sound and bright colours. In true video game style, every main quest involves side missions, and almost every side mission turns into yet another main quest .
Very amusing and something every gamer will identify with.
The characters are well written and the slimes are far less irritating than expected, actually bringing something useful to the story, with their ability to cast magic transferred from their master, very entertaining. This is an excellent package from MVM and if you are looking for fun and uncomplicated Isekai content then this is well worth adding to your collection.
“Where am I? I was just at the office working overtime. Sheesh, must be the screen, I stared at it for too long. Skills? Type? H.P.? Are these game stats?”
My Isekai Life is out now on Blu-ray
