Herbert James Winterstern writes and directs his first feature film, with this action film in the wide open spaces of Tornado alley. He pulls in a big name in the form of Alec Baldwin (The Departed, Glengarry Glen Ross) to play the big bad boss. Sit back and watch the thrills and spills in Supercell.
Bill (Richard Gunn, Clemency, Dark Angel (TV Series)) and Quinn Brody (Anne Heche, Wag the Dog, Donnie Brasco) are famous storm chasers on TV, and they have inspired the future of storm chasers. Due to Quinn giving birth to baby William (Jack Eyman, Asteroid City, At the Gates), Quinn stops her field work, even though they were working on an early warning device. We see Bill and the young Will watching a storm as they count the seconds of the thunder to see if the storm is moving towards them, or moving away.
Bill gets a call to go storm chasing and his assistant has changed the rules and brought along a student, so Bill jumps in the car instead of the Brody Storm Lab truck. As usual, Quinn tries to get Bill to use his phone while chasing the storms, but today is not that day.
You’re in Longhorn country now, everything is bigger in Texas.
Bill breaks the rules, and succumbs to the storm.
Ten Years later, and Will (Daniel Diemer, Little Brother, The Half of It) is now a sixteen-year-old misfit at high school. In his spare time, he helps Quinn with her house cleaning business. Will does have one friend in Harper (Jordan Kristine Seamón, We Are Who We Are (TV Series)).
It causes Quin pain to see Will wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps, she reminds him that his father never went to college, and that is his way out of doing dangerous pursuits. But the situation gets worse when out of the blue he gets a package, containing his father’s journal.
Unfortunately for ‘Uncle’ Roy (Skeet Ulrich, Scream, Escape Room) he left a return address, and Will takes this as an invitation to investigate his father’s past, and Will’s future. Will finds out the history of his parent’s company and what happened to it after Bill’s death, and this is where we meet the hard-nosed businessman Zane (Alec Baldwin). This sixteen-year-old is about to go on the biggest ride of his young life. Supercell thrills with its dramatic backdrops of Texas tornados, as you are surrounded by the raw violence of nature. Daniel Diemer and Jordan Kristine Seamón are stars on the rise, and Supercell is a great steppingstone for their talents. Supercell is a definite one for those who love a disaster film.
