Shaolin on the Rampage.

ARROW VIDEO have done it again, but even bigger this time as we see volume 2 of the masters of Martial Arts film making the Shaw Brothers. Ten, yes, ten disks. Fourteen action packed films (See below) and two disks of soundtracks. Brilliant stuff. Volume two should be the Christmas present for any Kung Fu fan out there.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin

Do men have a right to say what they believe in, or must they always do what the government says?

The Manchu’s rule china with an iron fist, which makes for a rebellion, it takes the form of the teacher, which then involves the students, which leads to the slaughter of the entire school.

I should have learnt Kung Fu. Instead of Ethics.

What use is that?

If I could fight. I might have stopped them.

Ethics tells you, what’s right.

Except for student Liu Yude (Chia-Hui Liu, Shaolin Challenges Ninja, Last Hero in China), who gets injured in his escape. He is heading for the Shaolin temple, but with his injury it is an impossible task. He needs help.

Fevered and comatose, he ends up at the temple, and after just ten days he is able to plead his case to stay at the temple. The journey begins on possibly the best Martial Arts film ever made. A career affirming performance that sets the future of Kung Fu films for decades to come.

With follow-up films taking a more comical approach to the martial arts, it is easy to see how future stars took this genre to its heights in the films to come.

With over twenty-three hours of viewing and listening pleasure, Shaw Brothers Volume 2 is a must own for the Martial Arts fan in your household this Xmas. How many training montages do you want?
