4 star crude but funny ‘B’ movie cop comedy.

“He got run over three times Gary. Boy looked like cafeteria meatloaf.”
In Colt Lake, Tennessee, there has been a brutal murder. An outsider named Travis (Loren Dunn – Tulsa King(TV Series)) has been killed on the main street, run over multiple times.
Under the watchful eye of Chief Sandy (Rob Riggle – The Hangover, 21 Jump Street), Deputy Sam Evans (Johnny Simmons – The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Sing Sing) is investigating, alongside his rather slow partner DJ (Chance Perdomo – Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (TV Series), Gen V (TV Series)). Also on the case is the senior Officer Gary (Andre Hyland – Descendent) and it’s fair to say that they are not the tightest law enforcement team.
Things are shaken up with the arrival of Bobby Gaines (Seann William Scott – American Pie, The Dukes of Hazzard), a mean, straight talking member of the State Police Task Force, here to get results by any means necessary. Leads point towards local drug dealer Jasper (Kai Caster – Deltopia) and from there to a gang lead by Downer (Ethan Suplee – The Butterfly Effect, Babylon), with sidekicks Shuggy (Paul Felder – Ghost Story) and Destiny (Jett Wilder – Monster (TV Series)), who could use some serious banjo lessons.
Sam, who is still pining after his love interest Izzy (Lovi Poe – Seasons, Malaya) finds himself conflicted over Bobby’s extreme methods, but at the same time he knows the job needs to be done. The locals are siding with Bobby, but will they manage to solve the case?
“I will eviscerate this f***** rodent and then I’m gonna get started on Colt Lake Jake unless you tell me what you saw right now!”
Bad Man is a very funny film, but it won’t appeal to everyone. The humour is both very black and very blokey, crude and old fashioned in it’s style.
The characters are all well written and while not likable, many of them are relatable.
What makes the film is the character of Sam, brilliantly portrayed by Johnny Simmons, who breathes life into this man who strives to balance his morals with getting the job done and genuinely wants to be a good man, even in the face of a bad man.
Provided you are not easily offended then this is well worth a watch.
“I’m all over it, the dick I mean. I’m gonna figure out who drew that. After the murder.”
