Talk To Me (2022) 4K UHD Review****-

Cert 15 | 95 mins | 2025

4 star imaginative and scary possession tale.

Talk To Me is a 2022 Australian supernatural horror film, directed by Danny and Michael Philippou in their super impressive feature directorial debut. It is written by Bill Hinzman (Bring Her Back) and Danny Philippou, based on a concept by Daley Pearson.

It is presented here in Limited Edition dual format 4K UHD and Blu-ray release, with lots of special features, alongside Standard Editions from 23rd June 2025, all courtesy of Second Sight Films.

“Okay, somebody time it. As soon as she lets it in, it cannot go for more than 90 seconds, am I clear?”

Mia (Sophie Wilde – Baby Girl, The Portable Door) is a young girl who is still troubled following the loss two years previously of her mother Rhea (Alexandria Steffensen – How to Please a Woman) and living with her father Max (Marcus Johnson – The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee), who is cold and distant.

She has been welcomed into the family of her best friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen – The Moogai, Beat) and spends most of her time at their house with her younger brother Riley (Joe Bird – Rabbit) and mother Sue (Miranda Otto – The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, At the Gates).

To let their hair down, they head off (with Riley in tow) to a house party hosted by friends Joss (Chris Alosio – How to Make Gravy) and Hayley (Zoe Terakes – Iron Heart (TV Mini Series)). They are taking part in the latest craze and have acquired an embalmed hand encased in ceramic. You light a candle, hold the hand and say “Talk to me, I will let you in” and a spirit enters your body and stays until the candle is extinguished. Everyone present films it, a great way to spend an evening. What’s the worst that could happen?

Everybody wants a go and it’s a very addictive experience, being possessed by someone else’s spirit, so much so that Jade decides to host the next gathering at her house. But as you might imagine, it’s all good fun until the rules get broken and they soon begin to realize they may have awakened forces beyond their ability to control.

“Light the candle to open the door, blow it out to close it.”

Talk to Me is a really excellent film, very intense and superbly written and an absolutely brilliant way for the Philippou siblings to introduce themselves as horror directors.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, it drags you in and keeps hold of you right to the predictable but still shocking twist at the end. It’s pretty brutal in places and doesn’t pull any punches, so not one for the faint hearted. It’s intelligent and modern, horror for a generation who never knew life without smartphones and deals with all sorts of topics, including bereavement and addiction without preaching at all.

This is a great package, looking mighty fine in 4K and packed with special features and artwork, horror fans will love to add this to their collection.

“I saw my Mom at the hospital and another one attacked Dan at my house.”

Talk To Me is on Limited Edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray Box set and Standard Edition 4K and Blu-ray from 23rd June 2025.
