4 Star

Meet the Spartan’s.

X-box users are very familiar with the name Halo, since 2001, now writers Steven Kane (The Doghouse, The Last Ship (TV Series)) and Kyle Killen (The Beaver, Mind Games (TV Series)) have brought it to our home screens. Based on the universe of the games, but it is a separate entity to the game franchise. Season one consists of nine one-hour long episodes, that packs in a lot of information, so this 4K release allows you to watch this great series over and over.

It is the 26th Century and humans have spread into the galaxy, and as usual they are at war with each other. But there is something worse out there, ‘The Covenant’ a fanatical powerful alliance of alien species, and they are big, and vicious, when humans encroach on their space. This is what happens to the colonists on the planet Madrigal.

While out getting into mischief, Kwan Ha (Yerin Ha, Reef Break (TV Series), Sissy) and friends spot an alien ship, only Kwan makes it back to the compound, where the Covenant attack. They start slaughtering the colonists as a human super soldier drops in, this is UNSC Spartan Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 (Pablo Schreiber, American Gods (TV Series), Skyscraper), who along with the rest of the Silver Squad start to take down the aliens. All the colonists are dead except for Kwan, who tells 117 about the Covenant spaceship. They have been excavating a cave, and they have uncovered a Forerunner keystone (ancient race). What happens when John touches it is very strange, it activates, lighting up the whole cave. A covenant soldier sees this, and he runs for his ship to tell his superiors.

On planet Reach, the very dodgy Dr. Catherine Halsey (Natascha McElhone, The Truman Show, Mr. Church) argues with Admiral Parangosky (Shabana Azmi, Signature Move, 24 (TV Series)) about her methods and her new A.I. project, based on the doctors own brainwaves. Meanwhile, 117 is ordered to bring Kwan to Reach, but during the space flight Kwan refuses to help the UNSC, due to this 117 is given the order to execute Kwan. But he refuses and gains Kwan’s trust when he removes his helmet, making him vulnerable.

This puts 117 at odds with his superiors, and his squad, can the relic save him and Kwan? As it reveals hidden memories of his childhood where he drew the relic, now in his possession, and he also drew another one, they must be connected, and found.

Halo Season 1 is a cracking 4K release with over five hours of Special Features, plus extra goodies, a great gift idea for the Sci-Fi fan in the house.
