4 star glorious restoration of a beloved eighties classic.
Innerspace is a 1897 American action adventure sci-fi film, written by Jeffrey Boam (Lethal Weapon 3, The Dead Zone) and Chip Proser (Homo Sapiens) and directed by Joe Dante (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Phantom). With this epic lineup of eighties talent involved you know you are in for a real treat.
Inspired by the 1966 film Fantastic Voyage, this excellent reimagining has enjoyed a 4K UHD restoration and is available in the UK on Limited Edition 4K UHD from 27th April 2026, courtesy of Arrow Video.
“We’re gonna drink this one to Ozzie. A good man who tried to save my ass by injecting me into yours.”
Lt. Tuck Pendleton (Dennis Quaid – Dreamscape, Enemy Mine) is a test pilot on a downward spiral. His love of the booze has resulted in several altercations and cost him his relationship with his girlfriend Lydia (Meg Ryan – When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle), as well as his job. As a result, he has volunteered to take part in a top secret experiment into miniaturisation.
He is to be shrunk down in a pod and injected into the body of a rabbit by scientist Ozzie Wexler (John Hora – Burying the Ex).
However, they are not the only parties interested in the miniaturisation technology and when the lab is attacked, Ozzie escapes with the syringe containing Tuck and the pod. He is shot by hitman Mr. Igoe (Vernon Wells – Bring Me a Skin For Dancing In, Weird Science) and in a desperate attempt to save Tuck, he injects him into the rear end of Jack Putter (Martin Short – Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Addams Family), a hypochondriac supermarket cashier.
He believes he is inside the rabbit, but soon finds out he’s inside a man when he connects to the optic nerve and sees his surroundings. Making contact via the inner ear, he has to try and help the hapless Putter survive the onslaught from everyone vying for the technology, including Victor Scrimshaw (Kevin McCarthy – Invasion of the Body Snatchers), Dr. Margaret Canker (Fiona Lewis – The Fury) and The Cowboy (Robert Picardo – Star Trek: Voyager).
“That’s the thing I want from you, no pain. I mean just don’t do anything weird in there, don’t cause an embolism or an aneurysm – accidentally sever my spinal cord and kinda go “oh sorry”. You know what I mean?”
Innerspace is a great film, which blew everyone’s minds when it was first released and is just as entertaining today. It’s a brilliant melding of sci-fi, comedy, action and adventure with excitement aplenty from start to finish.
The acting is of course excellent and they have a fantastic script to work with. The visuals look superb in this restoration, the colours are clear and the practical effects really benefit from the upgrade.
The Oscar winning special effects are shown off to the max and the soundtrack is crisp and clear.
A thoroughly enjoyable oddball wild ride, with lots of special features, a must own for fans of the eighties sci-fi comedy genre.
“That’s it Jack! Keep those stomach acids flowing, Jack! Okay pal, here’s how I spell relief. Jack… it worked. You just digested the bad guy.”
Innerspace is available to own now on Limited Edition 4K UHD
