3 star high stakes heist sequel.

“Abel Salazar wants us to do a job. That simple. He wants our team.”
Following the barely averted disaster that was their last mission together, Mason Goddard (John Travolta – Swordfish, The Forger) and his crew have finally given up on their life of crime. He, girlfriend Amelia (Gina Gershon – P.S. I love You, Fior Di Latte), brother Shawn (Lukas Haas – Inception, Witness) and the rest of the gang are attending the wedding of tech queen Link (Natali Yura – Fortress: Sniper’s Eye) and her new bloke Caras (Swen Temmel – Killing Field, Backtrace). Presiding over the ceremony is Anton (Quavo – Praise This, Salvage Salvation) and Hector (Noel Gugliemi – The Fast and the Furious, Training Day) rounds out the guest list.
It’s a lovely occasion until suddenly out of the blue a boat explodes just off the beach and gun helicopters sweep in along with armed men. Amelia is whisked away and shortly thereafter they are contacted by a familiar face, Mr. Flowers (Alex Hurt – Minyan), who confirms their suspicions. Salazar (Danny Pardo – Those Who Inherit the Earth) has kidnapped Amelia and the price of her release is their completion of a job for him.
They are to head to ‘The Scarlet Pearl’ casino in New Orleans, owned
by Shrimp magnate and notorious psychopath Zade Black (Demián Castro – The Refugee) to steal something from his safe. Mason poses as a high roller for a high stakes poker game to access the penthouse, while the rest of the gang execute a complex plan. Can they succeed and win Amelia her freedom?
“The Scarlet Pearl Hotel and Casino. A decadent playground for the rich and famous.”
High Rollers is an entertaining film, however I would thoroughly recommend watching Cash Out first, as there is no preamble and no clue as to who anyone is without it. Much like the first film, it is good fun and the actors do their best with a script that is a bit sluggish in places.
There are a lot of questionable decisions and motives and a lot of it makes no sense, however it still manages to be enjoyable. There is a good twist which I didn’t see coming at all. If you liked the first film then you will certainly want to watch this one and you will be pleased to hear that a third film has also been confirmed. No Ocean’s Eleven but still worth a watch.
“Mr. Black and Mr. Salazar are bitter enemies. If Zade finds out who you’re working for, you will not be arrested. Very likely, you will die a slow and excruciating death.”
High Rollers is available to stream now on UK Digital Platforms.
