The Love and Grief of a Demon.

MVM brings us a magical teen titillation Blu-ray, directed by Takashi Naoya (Am I Actually the Strongest? (TV Series), Tales of Wedding Rings (TV Series)). Taken from the manga series written by Kōta Aman and illustrated by Yōko Umezu. With the not so snappy title of Vermeil in Gold: The Failing Student and the Strongest Scourge Plunge Into the World of Magic, we get a great dose of dragons, demons, a naughty Professor, jealousy, dinosaurs, and titillation. Definitely aimed at teen boys.

Alto Goldfield (Yûya Hirose, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, Ultraman Arc (TV Series)) is an A-grade student at the Ortigia Academy of Magic, it is the end of the academic year, and there is a major stumbling block in front of Alto. He cannot summon a familiar, like every other student at the Academy. Despite his other A-grades, not having a familiar means he will flunk and have to retake the year, which is not acceptable to the Lilia (Wakana Kuramochi, The Duke of Death and His Maid (TV Series), A Star Brighter Than the Sun (TV Series)) the girl that is head-over-heels in love with him.

He decides to head for the library for one last ditched attempt at  acquiring a familiar and whilst looking around the towers shelves of books, from high above him, an ancient tome introduces itself to Alto. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, he skims through it until he finds a complicated incantation, he is good at those.

With plenty of noise and plenty of light, suddenly before him stands his conjuration Vermeil (Maaya Uchida, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, The Promised Neverland (TV Series)) a young, naked, heavily endowed female demon.

With a lot of embarrassment on Alto’s behalf, Vermeil agrees to put some clothes on, but the most important part is that this beautiful demon has agreed to be his familiar, this is confirmed by the pair of them acquiring the seal of the contract. Now he has his new familiar Alto qualifies to graduate, but to have a demon as a familiar is a no-no in the human world so Vermeil agrees to hide her horns and her tail when in public. Alto having a human familiar still causes a storm, as it takes a lot of mana to channel such a familiar. This new person in the classroom causes a storm with all the young boys, and evermore with Lilia as her jealousy blows up, and she challenges Alto to a magical duel. With the loser having a forfeit determined by the winner.

Alto wins and tells Lilia that she and Vermeil must become friends, now he only has the rest of the world to worry about as they start the new year and start to meet the more experienced students, the student council and teachers.

Vermeil in Gold is a fun magical comedy romance that has plenty of action and intrigue to keep the anime fan spellbound.
