4 star tongue in cheek comedy horror film.

Sorry About the Demon is a 2023 American comedy horror film written and directed by Emily Hagins (My Sucky Teen Romance, Pathogen).

It is a Shudder Exclusive, available on the streaming service from 19th January 2023.

“Grace has been taken. You should not have inhabited this house. It belongs to Deomonous.”

As the film opens, we see the Sellers family, Mum Tammy (Sarah Cleveland – End of the Road, Vehicle) and Dad Ken (Dave Peniuk – Funhouse) happy in their beautiful home with their two children Jake (Jude Zappala – North of Normal) and Grace (Presley Allard – UnPerfect Christmas Wish). There’s a problem however, as they discover when Grace is possessed by a demon named Deomonous (Tony Vespe – Maybe Shower).

Deomonous claims this is his house and he will only release their daughter if he recieves a human sacrifice. The family, who really like the house, agree to find him an alternative to Grace and she is released. But where will they find someone to take on the house and be thier sacrifice?

Introducing Will (Jon Michael Simpson – The One You’re With), a young man who works as a phone operator for the Presto Paste toothpaste company. His long suffering girlfriend Amy (Paige Evans – Something You Said Last Night) finally reaches the end of her tether and kicks him out of her house.

As it happens, there’s a lovely big house available and the Sellers waste no time in convincing him to take it on. With lots of strange goings on, it doesn’t take him long to realise that something is amiss. His best friend Patrick (Jeff McQuitty – A Perfect Host) tries to set him up on a date with Aimee (Olivia Ducayen), who as luck would have it is something of an expert in all things supernatural. Can they sort out Will’s problem before it’s too late?

“I like cake, it’s just that sugar rots your mouth and I don’t know why you would want to do that to your body.”

Sorry About the Demon is a very funny film and well written. It’s a hilarious take on a possession story with lots of good acting performances.

It’s a well meaning film, and works as a surprisingly good romance as well as being a horror film. It is also a cautionary tale about thoroughly checking out a property before you rent, especially if it looks too cheap!

It doesn’t have a massive budget, and it seems that most of that was spent on the mind blowing amounts of cake featured in the film. Fantastic. Very enjoyable and well worth your time.

“It’s an old house. Old houses have draughts. Draughts that can move chairs.  Yes, I’ve seen it in  the movies. Scary ones.”Sorry About the Demon is streaming now on Shudder.
