4 star energetic and offbeat anime continuation.

Urusei Yatsura is a 2022 Japanese anime adaptation of the massively popular manga series of the same name by Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Mermaid Saga).

Adapted for anime by Studio David Production (Ben-To, Cells at Work!!), this release features episodes 24-46 and is available to own on Blu-ray in the UK from 14th July 2025, courtesy of MVM Entertainment. Unlike the first two seasons, this is only available in Japanese, with English subtitles.

This follows directly on from the end of the previous season, so it is highly recommended to watch that before reading on.

“And thus their endless game of tag continues on to this day. Praise be.”

Ataru (Hiroshi Kamiya – Genshin Impact) is still married to the enthusiastic but extremely jealous Lum (Sumire Uesaka – Tearmoon Empire). As before, this does nothing to dent his amorous tendencies and despite the constant punishment, he continues his quest to chase as many hotties as possible.

Meanwhile, their school friends all have their ongoing issues, including an arranged marriage for Mendo (Mamoru Miyano – Lazarus), to the sister of his arch enemy Tobimaro (Yuki Kaji – Blue Box), and another arranged marriage of Ryunosuke to a ghost. Then, of course we have Lum’s old friends, all of whom are aliens with very different world views to the earthlings around them.

“Hah! Imbecile. You think your pathetic daikon radishes stood a chance against my sword? That’s hilarious.”

This series is still very entertaining, colourful and fun, but also covers some rather darker subject matter. There’s arranged marriages, gender bending and blatant incest, which while presented in a comedic fashion may still prove offensive to some.

There are just as many characters to get to grips with and some wacky and out there storylines including wish granting chewing gum, ghost octopus hats and body switching, all thrown together in a baffling array of sights and sound. There is a final ark which returns us neatly to the business of Lum and Ataru and ties things up nicely.

It’s sexist, bawdy and well worth a watch provided you can handle all the robust sexual innuendo and jokes. Fans of the first instalment will not be disappointed.

“At this rate, Asuka is going to fear men for the rest of her life and will be forced to constantly flee from them.”

Urusei Yatsura is available to own on Blu-ray from 14th July 2025.
