4 stars of battling against an ever growing evil.

Twin Star Exorcists is based on the Japanese shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Yoshiaki Sukeno and is adapted to anime by Studio Pierrot (Tokyo Ghoul, Naruto Shippuden). It is directed by Tomohisa Taguchi. This release is Part 1 of the series and comprises episodes 1 – 13.

“I ask for the unthinkable. Passage through the gate of the Gods, with the utmost humility and respect.”

Twin Star Exorcists is set in a world which exists alongside a parallel world called Magano, populated by demons known as Kegare who can break through and attack humans. They are kept under control by highly trained individuals known as exorcists.

It tells us the story of two young exorcists. Benio (Cassandra Lee Morris Coppelion, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) is a highly talented young exorcist from Kyoto. She receives a summons from the exorcist council to go to the Seiko dormitory in Tokyo.

On the way there, following a Kegare fight, she falls out of the sky and meets another exorcist, Rokuro (Charlotte, Sword Art Online) who has sworn never to work as an exorcist again following a terrible tragedy two years previously.

Benio takes an immediate dislike to him, but unfortunately for both of them, it turns out that Rokuro is also a member of the Seiko Dormitory. And to make matters worse, they are part of a prophecy which states that they are the “Twin Star Exorcists”, destined to marry and have a baby together.

The child will be known as the Miko and will tip the balance of power in the battle between human and Kegare. It is now up to them to try and out their differences aside for the good of the world.

Twin Star Exorcists is an enjoyable watch. The animation is excellent and the drawing style in Magano is dramatic and enhanced well by a good soundtrack.

The story so far is good, if a little cliched and the characters are relatively well developed, even if some of them are a little irritating. There is plenty of comedy and all in all I’m looking forward to Part 2. Well worth adding to your collection.

“If it’s my strength in battle you need Rokuro, then you have it whenever necessary.”
