3 star messy and baffling sci-fi film.

Jimmy and Stiggs is a 2024 American science fiction horror film, written and directed by Joe Begos (Christmas Bloody Christmas, Bliss), who also stars. It was the first film released by Eli Roth‘s (Knock Knock, The Last Exorcism Part II) The Horror Section.

It is available on UK and Ireland Digital Platforms from 16th February 2026, courtesy of Blue Finch Films.

“I couldn’t move my arms. I couldn’t move my legs. I was frozen. And then they were gone and I was somewhere else.”

Jimmy (Joe Begos) is a washed up film director who has gone into a downward spiral since becoming estranged from long time collaborator and best friend Stiggs (Matt Mercer – Contracted). Increasingly resentful, he invites his girlfriend Lexi (Riley Dandy – Interceptor) over and starts the evening as he means to go on, with a heady mix of drink, drugs and porn.

As he settles down, his room starts to shake, there are flashing lights and he finds himself first lifted into the air and then paralysed. He also sees glimpses of alien faces surrounding him.Having lost the entire night, he awakens to angry messages from Lexi and starts to mull over the events.

A long time believer in alien abduction, he heads of down the internet rabbit hole watching videos of abductees, especially John Redgrave (James RussoState of Grace, Django Unchained) and eventually decides he needs to see Stiggs. After not answering his calls, Stiggs shows up at the apartment, but unfortunately becomes caught up in the next round of ‘abductions’, as the two find themselves battling aliens (or inner demons) and each other to survive.

“The more I watched, the more I realised there’s no other explanation for this and I gotta f*****g talk to Stiggs, because who else is gonna know what I’m talking about.”

Jimmy and Stiggs is a very self contained film, mostly taking place in one small apartment and with very few actors, who put on a great performance. It’s an effective body horror and there’s plenty of blood and guts, in fact goo is flung around like a Saturday morning kids TV show, but using body parts instead of buckets. It’s hard to decide whether there really are aliens, or of this is just two drug and drink addled middle aged men on a bender.

It’s gory, messy, psychedelic and very probably best watched in the same state Jimmy is in for the majority of the film. The soundtrack is loud and jarring, perfect for the film and complements the visuals well, although this one is definitely not for anyone who is sensitive to flashing lights. It’s very out there, but if you like your horror strange then you may well enjoy this. (Besides, it’s worth watching for the two opening trailers, The Piano Killer and Don’t Go into That House, Bitch!, both of which look much better than the actual feature).

“Let’s say aliens f*****g exist, what you’re telling me is you’re going to kill one tonight, for the first time in recorded human history?”

Jimmy and Stiggs is available now on UK and Ireland Digital Platforms.
