Engage Kiss Collector's Edition Blu-ray Review

4 stars, an epic battle for humanity.

Engage Kiss is a 2022 Japanese anime TV Series, based on the manga series of the same name and created by A1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, Your Lie in April), with character design by Tsunako (Date A Live).

It is available to own in the UK on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray from 7th September 2026, courtesy of MVM Films.

“Those that once sought glory in this city and had their dreams dashed have fallen into the dregs of underground society. Now they soil their hands with crime and play their own part in the devastation of this city.”

Bayron City sits on a man made island in the Pacific Ocean. Created to be the site of a massive mine producing Orgonium, the new and incredibly effective energy source, it is billed as a paradise where everyone is happy and prosperous. Although it may appear that way to the outside world, the reality is very different.

The city is besieged by demons, so much so that an agency has been set up to counter the threat, known as the Anti Demon Bureau. They refer to the demons as “D Hazards” and hold auctions at which independent demon hunting groups bid for contracts to take out said demons. One such group is run by Shu Ogata (Howard Wang – Tokyo Ghoul:Re, Haikyu!!), young man who lost his parents to the demons and wants nothing more than to take them down.

His is assisted in his efforts by a very powerful demon called Kisara (Kayli Mills – March Comes In Like A Lion, Occultic: Nine) who also helps him out when he needs money and cooks for him. He is also still in touch with his ex Ayano (Suzie Yeung – A Certain Scientific Railgun T) who works for AAA demon hunters, for whom he used to work.

Despite lacking powers the local police, Mikami (Mark Whitten – Death Loop, Genshin Impact) and his partner Miles (Bill Butts – Sakamoto Days) are investigating a potential mastermind behind the demonic possessions. Can they work together to find out what is going on before it’s too late.

“We got paid, so let’s treat ourselves for once. And that means adding eggs to extra large beef balls and washing my hands.”

Engage Kiss is an excellent anime with a crisp and colourful animation style and belting soundtrack. The relationships between the characters are fun and engaging and the love triangle is both entertaining to watch and occasionally annoying. Shu comes across as a hopeless ladies man, but it is good to watch his character develop over the course of the series.

It’s a little slow to get going, but once it does it’s packed with twists and turns, with love, loss and betrayal at every turn, as well as some epic fight sequences. This Collector’s Edition comes with a box and 20 art cards and will be an excellent addition to your anime collection.
