4 stars, a bloody, brutal and satisfying sequel.
The Walking Dead: Dead City is an American post-apocalyptic horror drama series, created for AMC by Eli Jorné (Wilfred) based on the popular The Walking Dead characters Maggie and Negan. Season 2 takes place a year after the events of Season 1, so please be sure to watch the first series before reading on!
The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 is available from 29th September 2025 on Digital, DVD and Blu-ray alongside the Season 1 & 2 boxset, courtesy of Acorn Media International.
“The dead aren’t our problem. In surrounding us, they protect us. It’s why we’re still here. We don’t fear them. They’re us. They were our neighbors, our friends, our sisters, our parents, our children. And one day them. And you, and me.”
A year has passed since Maggie (Lauren Cohan – The Boy, Mile 22) traded Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan – Rampage, The Losers) for her son Hershel (Logan Kim – Ghostbusters: Afterlife) and left Manhattan to return to The Bricks.
With The Bricks now under the control of New Babylon, Negan’s young charge Ginny (Mahina Napoleon – NCIS Hawai’i (TV Series)) is living with them, but despite trying to carry on with their lives, Maggie and Hershel’s relationship is still strained.
Newly appointed Governor of New Babylon, Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles – Salt, Takers) has turned his sights back to Manhattan and their supply of methane.
An invasion force is prepared by the vastly over enthusiastic Major Narvaez (Dascha Polanco – Junction, A Little Prayer), but an anonymous tip off makes the whole thing much more dangerous, as the Burazi led by Negan, The Dama (Lisa Emery – Ozark (TV Series), Unfaithful) and the Croat (Zeljko Ivanek – Black Hawk Down, Argo) prepare an explosive welcome.
Once on the island, they encounter the other factions who have learned to survive in this new order, including the Foragers, a peaceful colony lead by Roksana (Pooya Mohseni – Terrifier, Bound) and rival gangs run by Bruegel (Kim Coates – See For Me, Sons of Anarchy (TV Series)) and Christos (Jake Weary – Animal Kingdom (TV series), It Follows). How will all these factions reconcile their differences on this island of the dead and find a way to move on?
“If you stop fearing what you’re so sure are the endings, you start to see they’re also the beginnings.”
The Walking Dead: Dead City SEason 2 is a brilliant and very welcome continuation of the story of Negan and Maggie, an unlikely pairing in anybody’s book, but with a relationship that really digs into what it means to be living in an entirely new world.
With excellent performances from all concerned, this series features tons of blood and guts, plenty of action sequences and a further deep dive into what it means to survive among the dead and how to turn it to your advantage.
There are a lot of characters, so you really have to pay attention, but it’s absolutely worth the effort. There are some annoying aspects, mainly how whiny and stupid Hershel is (the king of poor decision making and Mummy issues) , but aside from that it’s great fun. Well worth adding to your Walking Dead collection and very much not for the faint hearted.
“Bridge partners are hard to come by these days”
The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 and Seasons 1 & 2 Box Set are available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital from 29th September 2025
