4 stars of hilarious pub game action.

Bar Fight! is a 2022 American comedy written and directed by Jim Mahoney in his brilliant feature directorial debut. It is available in the UK on Digital Platforms from 14th November 2022 courtesy of Signature Entertainment.

“I dig him. He’s like a chocolate Clark Kent. His work is impressive.”

Nina (Melissa Fumero – Driver X, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Allen (Luka Jones – In a Relationship) have recently separated following a five year relationship, just before Christmas. Much to the consternation of their friends, the whole thing has been exceptionally amiable.

Nina and best friend Chelsea (Rachel Bloom – The School for Good and Evil) have decided to go for a girl’s night out, mainly for Chelsea to get away from her two daughters for the night. They head to The Martinez, a favourite bar.

Allen and his best friend and work colleague Milan (Julian Gant – As They Made Us) are also going out for the night and probably not by coincidence, they also head to The Martinez, as this is the pub Nina and Allen have always gone to together.

Immediately a stand off begins over who gets to remain a regular, and barman Mason (Daniel DorrBill & Ted Face the Music) is forced to intervene. They take it to a vote but that dooesn’t settle anything, it’s a tie. Manager Dick (Vik Sahay– Captain Marvel, Chuck) is against the whole thing but new girl Autumn (Hope Lauren – The Forever Purge) has a bright idea, best two of three, with challenges set by the staff to be drawn from a hat.

So begins an epic contest, presided over by Jaz (Shontae Saldana -Gardens of the Night) and helped out by Chef Elena (Dot-Marie Jones3 From Hell) who has an astonishing array of strange contraptions in her car. Who will get to stay at their favourite watering hole?

“It’s just a goodbye squeeze, to let you kow the hug’s over.”

Bar Fight! is a great idea for a film and really well executed. It’s laugh out loud funny from start to finish and the characters are all well written and relatable. The acting performances are very good too, with everyone making the most of a funny script. It’s not going to change the world, but it’s a very entertaining way to spend an hour and a half, blindfolded darts anyone?

Anyone who has been in a failed relationship will identify with this dilemma, the struggle is real, who wants to have to find a new place to drink?!

“She’s right y’all. Chugging 101. If anybody yaks they gotta chug an new one.”
