30 Days of Night is a 2007 American horror/thriller film, based on the 2002 comic book mini-series of the same name written by Steve Niles (Remains). He also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Stuart Beattie (Collateral) and Brian Nelson (Hard Candy).
Directed by David Slade (Hannibal (TV Series), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), it has enjoyed a 4K restoration and is available to own on Limited Edition 4K UHD Steelbook, Blu-ray and DVD from 27th July 2026, courtesy of Icon Film Distribution.

As the film opens we see a Stranger (Ben Foster – Hell Or High Water, Hustle) disembark an icebound ship and head for the remote Alaskan town of Barrow, the Northernmost town in the U.S. Isolated in eighty miles of roadless wilderness, the town is cut off every winter, by thirty days of night.
Sheriff Eben (Josh Hartnett – The Virgin Suicides, Lucky Number Slevin) and his deputy Billy (Manu Bennett – The Hobbit Trilogy, Muru) have headed out of town to watch the final sunset and here they discover The Strangers’ handiwork in the form of a pit full of burned cell phones. Meanwhile in town, Eben’s estranged wife Stella (Melissa George – Home and Away (TV Series), Triangle) is concluding her Fire Marshall business and preparing to head to the airport, along with many of the other residents.
She is hit by a snow plough on the way out of town and despite securing a lift, misses her flight and is forced to stay for the duration. As darkness falls, it is discovered that all the sled dogs have been slaughtered and communications are down. Eben returns to the depot where his grandmother Helen (Elizabeth McRae – Rest for the Wicked) and brother Jake (Mark Rendall – Stockholm) are waiting and the now imprisoned Stranger insists that something is coming.
That something is the vampire Marlow (Danny Huston – Pressure, Samurai Marathon 1885) and his band of hungry followers, all keen to enjoy a full thirty days of hunting,without having to hide from the sun. Can the remaining townsfolk hold out until sunrise?
“Let me tell you what I’ve got. You don’t work at the refinery. You didn’t fly in, somebody would’ve seen you. You’re definitely not from around here. How’d you get in?”
30 Days of Night is an excellent film, very stylish and a fantastic addition to the vampire genre. It is superbly acted and directed, with great character development and tension building which makes you actually care about the fate of these individuals. 
The premise is terrifying and I’m surprised it took as long as it did for someone to write this story, very clever.
It is thoroughly gruesome and blood soaked throughout, with plenty of graphic scenes and peril. If you want to see this in even better detail, there is now a 4K UHD restoration available to bring everything to life.
Bursting with special features and new interviews, this is well worth adding to your collection.
