It’s All in the Blood.

From the pen and direction of Jeff Barnaby (Rhymes for Young Ghouls) comes a blood thirsty tale of natives over the interloper and the deficiencies the interloper brings to the World. Barnaby brings an honest story of survival with great direction and getting the very best from his actors in amongst the gallons of blood and intestines. Also keeping you on edge is the sound track also done by Barnaby and including Joe Barrucco (Kickboxer: Vengeance, Pandemic).

Take heed to thy self, that thou make no treaty with the in habitants of the land, wither thou goest lest it be cause of ruin among you. Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and burn their groves.

Take heed to thy self, that thou make no treaty with the in habitants of the land. For when they whore themselves to their demons and sacrifice to them. You will eat their sacrifices, and when you choose some of their daughters for your sons, they will lead your sons to do the same.

Ancient Settler Proverb.

Red Crow Reservation 1981 and a peaceful scene as war veteran Gisigu (Stonehorse Lone Goeman) sits in his rowing boat and pulls in his fishing nets bringing in a fine catch of large salmon. With his fine haul he returns to the shore where he guts the dead salmon, ready for the grill. But the gutted fish don’t like this situation, so they come back from the dead. Meanwhile, police chief Traylor (Michael Greyeyes, Woman Walks Ahead, Klondike (TV Mini-Series), The Reawakening) is attending a sick dog that seems to have been poisoned by rat poison in a trash heap and he has to put the dog down. He puts the dog in the boot of his car to be disposed of.

He meets up with his ex-wife Joss (Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open) who is a nurse at the local hospital. This is the least of his worries as he gets a call from his dad (Gisigu) to come over to his pawn shop and that his kid Joseph (Forrest Goodluck, The Revenant) is in custody along with his older brother Lysol (Kiowa Gordon, Wind Walkers) who is definitely the black sheep of the family, with Joseph coming in a close second.

The chief gets lots of strange calls about ‘white’ people doing strange things all over the area. He finds out first hand when he goes to pick up Joseph and Lysol. They are locked up with another guy who is being really sick (or is he) when suddenly there is blood everywhere and the two brothers start to panic. Soon there is a lot of biting. The fun begins in earnest.

“It was a dog that got my family, I was sentimental about my dog.

Turns out immune to the plague, doesn’t mean immune to being eaten alive.”

The problem is that the colonials are not immune to whatever this infection is and it is spreading fast, within six months there are plagues of zombies roaming the land and the only refuge is the Red Crow reservation and the colonials that have survived try to get to the reservation, that is now heavily fortified and you have to get past Bumper (Brandon Oakes, Through Black Spruce) and his axe to get in.

This is their story.

Blood Quantum does have a message and it is not hidden, but with the great acting and direction this is a first class horror film with lots and lots of biting and lots and lots of slicing and dicing (Thank you Grandpa). Highly recommended for the true horror fans.

Mother Earth will find a way.
