The Last Boy Scout Limited Edition 4K UHD Review*****

Cert 18 | 105 mins | 2026

5 star epic restoration of a nineties action classic.

In 1991, our cinema screens exploded in a flurry of American footballer shooting, dead squirrel wrangling, high octane thrills, as The Last Boy Scout crashed into our lives with a briefcase full of fresh fruit.

Directed by Tony Scott (Top Gun, True Romance) from a screenplay by Shane Black (The Predator, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), it has enjoyed a 4K restoration from the original camera negative and is available to own on 4K UHD from 12th October 2026 courtesy of Arrow Video.

“This is the ’90s. You don’t just go around punching people. You have to say something cool first.”

As the film opens, we see Los Angeles Stallions running back Billy Cole lose his mind on drugs in the middle of a game and shoot his way to the end zone before blowing out his brains. Meanwhile, we see Joe Hallenbeck (Bruce Willis – Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For, 16 Blocks), a private investigator and disgraced secret service agent with issues, rudely awakened in his car by the insertion of a dead squirrel through the window.

His relationship with his wife Sarah (Chelsea Field – Wicked, Flipper) is on the rocks, his daughter Darian (Danielle Harris – Marrow, Halloween) doesn’t respect him and to top it off he discovers that Sarah  is having an affair with his best friend and business partner Mike (Bruce McGill – Law Abiding Citizen, The Insider). A job is a job however, and after a small altercation he accepts a job from Mike, To act as a bodyguard for a stripper named Cory (Halle Berry – Swordfish, Die Another Day). Just a few moments later he is killed in a car bomb outside Joe’s house.

While at the club he is approached by Cory’s boyfriend Jimmy Dix (Damon Wayans – Cinnamon, Behind the Smile), a former Stallions player who was banned for gambling. When she is killed, the pair team up to investigate and begin to uncover a huge sports gambling ring, involving high level players such as crime boss Milo (Taylor Negron – Angels in the Outfield) and Senator Marcone (Noble Willingham – City Slickers, Walker: Texas Ranger). Can this unlikely duo save the day?

“Sure, sure, I know… it just happened. Coulda happened to anybody. It was an accident, right? You tripped, slipped on the floor and accidentally stuck your d*** in my wife. “Whoops! I’m so sorry, Mrs. H. I guess this just isn’t my week.”

The Last Boy Scout is an absolutely hilarious film, made when Bruce Willis was at the peak of his powers and his delivery of the one liners is brilliant. It’s a great story, well written, fun to watch and keeps you on the edge of your seat right to the end, when we all dance a jig together.

Packed to the rafters with familiar faces and nineties nostalgia, this is a great release. With lots of new special features and a nifty Collector’s booklet, this is a must own for fans of nineties action flicks.

“Well, there’s not much more to tell than that. Water’s wet, the sky’s blue. And old Satan Claus, Jimmy, he’s out there. And he’s just getting stronger.”

The Last Boy Scout is available to own now on Limited Edition 4K UHD.
