4 stars, a very unusual and amusing romantic comedy.
How I Attended An All Guys Mixer is a 2024 Japanese anime series based on the manga series of the same name, written by Nana Aokawa.
Directed by Satoshi Takemoto, Akimori Sakami and Masaki Ogata, it was adapted for television by Studio Ashi Productions (Magical Princess Minky Momo, Macross 7) and is available to own on Blu-ray in the UK from 17th August 2026 courtesy of MVM Films.
“Why are these handsome b*st*rds making us watch them kiss? Wait. Aren’t they supposed to be women?”
Tokiwa (Jeremy Gee – Love Flops, Vinland Saga) is very excited as he and his two best friends Hagi (Benjamin McLaughlin – Haikyu!!, Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) and Asagi (Bryson Baugus – Tsurune, Golden Time) have been invited to attend a mixer (blind date) by his female University classmate Suou (Urusei Yatsura, Ragna Crimson).
They turn up expecting to find some lovely ladies, but much to their surprise are instead greeted by three dazzlingly handsome boys. As it happens, Suou and her friends Fuji (Katelyn Barr – Chaika: The Coffin Princess, Tokyo Ghoul:re) and Kohaku (Annie Wild – Vermeil in Gold, Helck) work at a Drag King bar and not having had time to change, are all dressed as super hot guys.
This completely freaks out the boys, who have great trouble dealing with the concept. As they begin to become friends and spend time together, each of them finds great conflict in the feelings they have for someone who looks like a guy, even questioning their sexuality. With the girls wearing the trousers in every sense of the word, can they come to terms with this unusual situation and forge relationships?
“Wait! This is fantastic news. Beneath their hunky exteriors are attractive babes. Now I’m excited!”
How I Attended An All Guys Mixer is a very entertaining anime to watch, and laugh out loud funny in places. It’s a great idea for a story and put across superbly.
The characters are well written and their reactions to each other are hilarious, especially the boys when they are taken buy surprise.
With a colourful and pleasing animation style and plenty of laughs and mishaps to keep you amused, this is a great watch and well worth adding to your collection.
“She wants a picture of the two of us? What do I do? What kind of cruel and unusual punishment is it to be in a photo with a hot guy?!”
How I Attended An All Guys Mixer is available to own now on Blu-ray.
