5 Star
Gripping Period Horror.
Once again, RoadRash Reviews has been given the pleasure of seeing writer, director Steven M. Smith (Essex Boys: Law of Survival, The Ghosts of Borley Rectory, I Am Hooligan) and Greenway Entertainment’s newest horror. This time, they revisit Borley Rectory and its long-running connection to ghosts and weird happenings. This time we go back in time to see the problems they had back in the nineteenth Century. This is what happens when you disturb violent ghosts, it’s edge-of-your-seat, hold your breath time.
It’s 1888, and Borley Rectory is a far cry from the ruins it will become, the Bull family are in residence. The head of the family is Harry Bull (Julian Glover, We Still Steal the Old Way, The Toll), his wife Constance (Patsy
Kensit, Renegades, Lethal Weapon 2), their daughters Kitty (Jess Inchbald), Freda (Charlotte Luxford, The Haunted Hotel), Mabel (Lora Hristova, Unhinged), Caroline (Jenna N. Wilson, Island of the Dolls 2), and son Henry (Corneille Dion Williams) the heir-apparent to the rectory.
In the dark nights, there is a gathering where they talk of ghosts and the history of the rectory, where Marie (Samantha Anderson. Best Geezer) a nun is said to
roam the halls of Borley, as well as a priest, who does violent acts to the nun. It all gets very tense until Kitty plays a scary joke on the gathering. With rumours of a box of old letters that say the stories are true.
No such things as ghosts, and nothing haunts this place.
Twelve Years later.
The rectory is old, and it has a priest hole, and sequestered away is the box, full of letters from a previous occupant, the reverend Shaw (Simon Phillips, Butchers) who tells tales of sightings and apparitions. The box is Henry’s legacy.
Finding the box has rekindled the activity of the spirits at Borley rectory, and the girls start seeing things in the walled garden and the house, as sightings become more frequent and more graphic. They must try and stop the violent priest and set the nun free. Watch in horror as the Bull family go through the horrors of trying to exercise the rectory.
The symptoms are the building, It’s garden, the nearby church.
Greenway Entertainment and the director and the ensemble bring this story to frightening life, great to see Helen Lederer (Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie) and Vicki Michelle (The Return of ‘Allo ‘Allo!).
Sit back, bite your fingernails, and grab someone’s hand, just make sure it’s someone that is alive. With a great original story, the legend continues, with just the right amount of jump scares, and great effects, this is right up the street of any ghost fan.
Blur the lines between this world and the spirit world.
