3 star feel good fun in the sun.
The Fabulous Four is a 2025 American comedy film, written by Ann Marie Allison (Golden Arm) and Jenna Milly (You’re Dating a Narcissist!) and directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse (Proof, Muriel’s Wedding).

“When did we first meet, Marilyn and me? First year of college. She was wild and wonderful. I was as serious as a heart attack.”
The Fabulous Four tells us the story of four lifelong friends. Marilyn (Bette Midler – Beaches, Hocus Pocus) and Lou (Susan Sarandon – Maybe I Do, Spark, Thelma and Louise) met in college where Marilyn was the wild one who taught Lou how to have a good time and Lou, the soon to be doctor, was the sensible one who made her do her assignments on time. After college they got a house together, which is where they met singer Alice (Megan Mullally – The Disaster Artist, Crush) and keen botanist Kitty (Sheryl Lee Ralph – Ricky, The Young Wife).
Years later and they have all gone their separate ways, so when the recently widowed Marilyn meets the man of her dreams and decides to marry him, what better time to reunite the gang? Alice and Kitty are keen to attend, but Marilyn and Lou are estranged after she eloped with Lou’s boyfriend and subsequently married him. Alice and Kitty come up with an elaborate ruse to entice her to Key West, but understandably she is a little miffed when she realises she’s been had.
She decides to stay and fun and chaos ensues as she meets and falls for the tall handsome Ted (Bruce Greenwood – The Post, Elephant Song) as well as fellow Doctor/boat Captain Ernie (Timothy V. Murphy – Broil, Appaloosa). She also keeps bumping into the kids she met on the plane over, Shivani (Renika Williams – Healing River), Sheila (Abigail Dolan – Spider and Jesse) and Brandon (David Goren – Big Milk). Can her new found friends help her swallow her pride and make up with her best friend in time for the wedding?
“Does this look like a sin to you? I’m telling you, my gummies are a near religious experience.”
The Fabulous Four is a very entertaining film, with lots of sunshine and sea and beautiful locations. The cast of leading ladies are indeed fabulous although their considerable talents feel under utilised, they could all have contributed much more given a better script and some character development.
That being said, this works very well as a comedy fluff piece. I did laugh out loud a few times and there are a couple of excellent sing and dance numbers (as you might expect). There’s also a rather sad appearance from Michael Bolton who just looks confused and is clearly not ready to jump back into the spotlight quite yet.
Despite a lack of compelling storyline, there are plenty of silly antics and it does feel very much like meeting up with your former young adult friends, who will always know you better than anyone else. For a couple of hours of unchallenging sun soaked fun and laughter, I would recommend romcom fans to give this one a watch.
“Okay, leave it to me. That waiter I met, I bet he’s got a ginormous glue gun.”
