5 Star

Restoration Heaven.

Arrow Video brings us a trio of 4K UHD Classic Wuxia films spanning the years from 1987-1991. These restorations bring all the action, and all the special effects to a crispy conclusion. All three films are directed by Siu-Tung Ching (Duel To The Death, Wonder Seven), and as a stunt performer as well as being the director, you can see why there are so many stunts in these three ghost stories tht span one-hundred years. A thrilogy that belongs on your 4k Uhd shelf.

A Chinese Ghost Story.

Timid debt collector Ning Caichen (Leslie Cheung, Once a Thief, The Bride With White Hair) is not having a good night, as he is in the middle of nowhere, its raining heavily, and he is stuck between two guys trying to kill each other. He manages to find refuge in a deserted temple in the forest. This is where he meets Nie Xiaoqian (Joey Wong, Green Snake, God of Gamblers), he is imediatly smitten by her beauty and he falls in love.

But one of the men fighting is Yan Chixia (Wu Ma, The Dead and the Deadly, Righting Wrongs), a Taoist priest, who breaks Ning’s bubble by telling him that Nie is a ghost.

Therein is the story in a nutshell, for the love of a ghost across a century. With ground breaking effects these films stand out from what was being produced at the same time in Hong Kong.

Definitely one to add to your Wuxia shelf.

Scholar, it seems we’ve to storm hell!
